Oh My Girl's Seunghee - Cheer Up (Twice Cover)

On JTBC's new program "Girl Spirit", in which lesser known girl groups vocalists get to perform and compete for a chance to release a single, has so far produced some pretty impressive performance. One of my favorite contenders is Oh My Girl's Seunghee, who already during the first episode did a brilliant cover of SHINee's "Dream Girl", and her recent cover of Twice's "Cheer Up" is nothing less but fantastic. I've had this on repeat like a maniac and I think I might even like it better than the original. The arrangement is great, the vocals are on point and her stage presence and charisma is oozing.

I.O.I Levels Up With "Whatta Man"

Following the debut of project group I.O.I earlier this year comes now the group's first sub-unit. Originally being composed of 11 members this one features only seven (Chungha, Nayoung, Pinky, Doyeon, Somi, Sohye and Yoojung), as four of them (Chaeyeon, Sejeong, Yeonjung and Mina) have been called back by their respective companies to promote in different groups. I wrote about I.O.I and their debut "Dream Girls" when it came out and although I thought it was decent I definitely knew they could do much better, both with the song, concept and video. For this comeback I'm pleased to announce that they have done so much better, and it makes me want to forget that "Dream Girls" even happened and pretend "Whatta Man" is their actual debut.

GFriend Kills It Once Again With "Navillera" And First Full Length Album "LOL"

Another GFriend comeback, another chart and music show domination period. What else is to be expected from this incredibly successful six-piece? Personally I still have a hard time understanding that this is only their second year because it feels quite difficult to remember what it was like before this group existed. As I'm writing this GFriend just had their 14th win with title track "Navillera" and "Rough" is still in the top 50 on Melon after seven months since its release, breaking the previously set record by Girls' Generation and "Gee". If that doesn't speak of how huge their success is then I don't know what does. As you know I love these girls so much so naturally this review of their new album "LOL" is written from a biased point of view, but I don't think anyone can deny that this comeback is, just like all of their previous ones, a continuation of their ever-growing brilliance.

Video(s) of the Week #29

Beast - "Ribbon" (Tipsy Version)

I live for all these semi-drunk performances that Dingo Music are putting out recently, and this one with the boys of Beast singing their newest track "Ribbon" is really funny to watch. It's also quite impressing how stable they are and how good they sound even when consuming alcohol.

PS: I also wanted to post their recent performances on Sketchbook, which were amazing as usual, but they videos couldn't be embedded so I'll just leave the links here and here instead. Enjoy!

Beast Makes First Comeback As 5 With "Highlight"

I know I say this every time Beast releases any new material, but this group really is one of my all-time favorites. I don't mean this in a fangirl kind of sense since I don't follow their activities much outside of their annual promotions, but more in a sense that I genuinely like the music they put out and admire them for it. Earlier this year it was, unsurprisingly, revealed that member Jang Hyunseung was leaving the group and of course it was a sad moment for fans since he's been there since the beginning. He's also a very talented dancer and vocalist so naturally his absence wouldl be noticeable, but I was confident that the remaining members of Beast were going to do just fine even as five. Now they've made their grand comeback with third full album "Highlight", and has once again proven to be a force to be reckoned with.

Day6's Sungjin & Dowoon -  "Hug Me" (Jung Joon Il Cover)

Another week, another Day6 cover. This one in particular is a few weeks old but once I heard it I knew I had to share it with you. Sungjin's voice is wonderful as usual and along with Dowoon's accompanying it makes for a great listen of this, to me, previously unknown song.

Glorious Photoshoots - July

I'm SORRY I didn't post this earlier! I've had this post ready for weeks but I just completely forgot about it. Ah well, I guess better late than never. Let's start off the summery month of July's best photoshoots with gorgeous Luna shooting for The Celebrity.

NCT 127 Debuts With "Fire Truck" And I'm Still Dying

After promising teasers from the second unit group of SM's latest plan to take over the world, NCT 127 has finally made their official debut as the "Seoul Unit" of the group. I'm still not entirely sure about the concept of NCT in general, as I thought previously that NCT U was the unchangeable core and the other "city-based" units would be interchangeable, but now it seems that maybe it's the opposite way around. I don't know for sure and I don't know if I ever will so I've figured that it's best to just follow along whatever units will come out of this massive project. NCT 127 is composed out of Taeyong, Taeil, Jaehyun, Yuta, Mark, Winwin and Haechan and is following the path of NCT U in making a debut that's quite different from what you'd normally expect from a SM release.
