You might ask; what makes a good comeback?, and I don't think there's one correct answer for that question. Generally when a group or soloist makes a comeback there are a few things that factor in, like the title track and MV as well as the eventual mini or full album, but aspects like the concept, styling and originality also matter to a certain point. I tend to weigh in all those things, but at the end of the day the feeling a comeback gives you might be the most important thing. Below you will find the comebacks of 2015 that left the most impact on me personally, and the ones I thought had the most solid components.
I think that this was definitely the hardest category out of all of them because part of what makes K-pop so amazing are the many different kinds of videos, that are nothing alike those who are made in the West and where I come from. I often complain about videos being generic and sticking only to one formula, but truth is that compared to many western MV's they're still way ahead in terms of production value and quality. The K-pop MV is an investment as it's a highly important factor in what makes a group successful, and thus it's natural that there are a lot of great videos. After much debate I managed to select my top 10, but there were plenty more that I also enjoyed which are mentioned at the end. Enjoy!
The "Best of 2015" series continues, and today we will tackle one of the most exciting categories in my opinion; best choreographies. The dancing is arguably on of the best parts about K-pop in general, especially when you're from a western country where the pop groups rarely dance and if they do; poorly, and even my mom who isn't much of a fan is amazed by how great everyone is at dancing. Below I have compiled my 10 favorite dance routines of the year, with some honorable mentions at the end for those who were so close to making it, but sadly didn't. Enjoy!
Guys, this was so hard. Putting together this list was nearly impossible, and I honestly cannot understand how I managed to narrow it down to a top 10 last year. I have to say that 2015 has been pretty good in terms of music, and thus this ranking of my favorite songs took some time to put together. Like with the post for favorite albums I have added some restrictions here as well, because otherwise it would be too hard. For example I have split this ranking into two categories; title tracks and b-sides, as well as limiting it to Korean songs only (meaning no Japanese songs by Korean artists), and in doing so this has become a bit easier, but still very difficult. Nonetheless, here you have the first part of this series; my favorite songs of 2015, title track edition!
This is what I've been waiting all year for; the "Best of" series! I'm going to kick it off with best album but unlike what I said I would do last year I will not be separating the albums into full and mini, because, well, there wasn't enough full albums that I liked.However there will be some restrictions for this list. For it to be counted as a mini album it has to contain at least four songs, excluding an eventual intro, because there were some that I liked but were a bit too short to be counted as a mini album to me. This will be in no particular order because it would be too hard, but here it is; my favorite albums of 2015!
Goregous After School member and actress Uee stuns with her Grazia photoshoot. I had so much trouble picking which shots to include because they were all flawless.
Although his latest album "Flower" was a mixed bag for me, this song in particular made my heart skip a beat at first listen. Incredibly emotional and fairy-tale-like gorgeous; Junsu sings his heart out in this touching ballad. And I don't even like ballads.
As you may or may not recall; I wrote a brief rant of love right at the time the MV for "Flower" came out and promised a longer review, and here it is. I'll put a warning stamp on this post though, because it is long.
I have literally no idea what is going on in this music video but I think I might have experienced some kind of spiritual awakening. I had no idea what I was going to get by watching this but I promise you it's the best decision I've made all day. Not only is the song the most epic tune I've heard period, but the way it works together with this massively symbolic video is nothing but a blessing from the heavens.
It's funny because although I have a really hard time understanding the video even though I've read the lyrics, it doesn't matter because it speaks on a level beyond words and meaning. You just get it, you know? You can feel it in your heart and in your soul, and that's an experience I rarely get due to music these days. For that I thank you Junsu, for constantly stepping out of the box and unleashing your creativity and artistry the way only you know how to do.
Well, I'm off to watch this video over and over again until I know every note and every instrumental layer by heart, and also until I understand what's actually going on. Then I might get back and do a proper review, but if not I will at least review the album because if it's packed with song's like this one, there's no way I won't be gushing about it.
I am currently on my much needed summer break and has been since Tuesday, so I thought it might be appropriate to make a nice little post about some of my favorite summer songs. There are endless amounts of summer inspired songs that make you all happy and cheerful and gets you in the mood for dancing all night long, but these are just some of my favorites that I could think of from the top of my head!
