SNS Friday #3 - The Halloween Edition

SM's annual Halloween party is one of my yearly highlights, because everyone always has amazing costumes. Thus will this week's SNS Friday mostly include pictures either from the party or other Halloween photos, but I promise there will be some pretty selcas near the end as well! Above we see Tiffany takes a picture with the members of Red Velvet, who all look adorable.

SNS Friday #1

I've wanted to do this for quite some time now but I didn't really know how to present it up until now. I imagined a weekly recap of some sorts of my favorite social media, or SNS, pictures from idols that have been posted during the week. This is my first attempt, and I don't know how it'll pan out but at least I gave it an honest shot if it would turn out not to be successful. My primary source will be Instagram, naturally, but also Twitter and occasionally Weibo. Let's see how this goes!

TBT - Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry"

Super Junior celebrates their tenth anniversary this year, which is crazy, and thus I decided to feature this classic K-pop hit. "Sorry Sorry" was one of the many great singles released during the awesome year of 2009, and it was the one that really made them the big name they are today. I personally think the song is extremely catchy still to this day and the choreography is just iconic.

8 Favorite Male Voices

Part of what makes K-pop so amazing are all the talented people that make up the whole phenomenon. There are idols with flawless dancing abilities, mad rap skills and of course the one with chill-inducing voices. Below I have listed some of my favorite voices in K-pop in no particular order, and note that this isn't based on technical skill or vocal control but rather whose vocal tone I find the nicest to listen to.

Video of the Week #9

TVXQ's Changmin Ft. Exo's Chen And Super Junior's Kyuhyun - "Bolero"

Recently performed at SMTOWN in Tokyo, this trio of great vocalist manage to achieve something wonderful: a good cover of a song difficult covering. I personally love "Bolero" to the moon and back and while nothing, EVER can beat the original version performed by the original five members, this rendition is beautiful.

Chen sounds like an angel as usual, Kyuhyun keeps reminding me why he's one of my favorite vocalists period and Changmin impresses me tremendously. While I usally find his voice a bit harsh to listen to (because of the tone, not his technique), he is actually by far my favorite in this performance. Not only does his voice sound fantastic but the passion and emotion he puts into his singing is remarkable.

TBT - Super Junior M's "Break Down"

Released: January 6, 2013

I remember loving this song when it came out, absolutely adoring it. The video isn't anything special but the colors are nice, the vocals and dancing are great and it has Henry and Zhoumi in it so what's not to love?

2014 End-year Review - Top 5 Videos

Part of what makes K-pop so great are the videos that accompany the many title tracks. I think a music video of any kind is a great complement to a song, but in South Korea the videos certainly have their own style. Not to say the industry hasn't been getting more and more westernized lately, but there's still something about them that stands out. Below you will find the videos that stood out to me in the second half of the year, for multiple reasons.

The Strangest of Names - Fanclubs

JYP's latest heartthrob boy group GOT7 recently announced their official fanclub name via a YouTube video, and it's horrible. However, it doesn't really surprise me because in general, most fanclub names are quite questionable. As I eagerly await the reveal of EXO's (and poor f(x)) fanclub name, I thought it would be interesting to go through some of the more odd ones out there. And believe me, there's a lot of them.

Of Sub-units and Solos Pt.1

Sooner or later, groups disband. It's the sad truth. In the early years of Kpop, groups would suffer from the 5-year-curse, which meant that once a group hit 5 years together, chances of them breaking up increased severely. Examples are H.O.T (1996-2001) and S.E.S (1997-2002), who both lasted exactly for 5 years before splitting up. Nowadays, this curse seems to have somewhat vanished, with groups like Big Bang, Super Junior, SNSD and SHINee having stuck together for way over 5 years and are still going strong. And of course, who could forget Shinhwa?

However, as a group approaches the 5 year mark (or even earlier), most members have their own individual activities and the group only comes together for the annual comeback and the year-end shows, so it's not so strange that maybe one or two members will release solo material, or even form a sub-unit.

The Strangest of Names - Groups

In honor of LOEN Entertainment changing their perfectly good name to the strangeness that is 1theK, I though this would be a good opportunity to take a look at some of the more questionable names in the Kpop world. This four-part segment will feature both group names*, fanclub names, song titles and names of individual members.
What names are so embarrassing that you are ashamed to even speak them out loud or introduce them to friends and family? What names make your hair stand up by sheer horror and make you want to wish you never heard them in the first place? Let's find out.

* I've chosen only to include newer groups, so classics like H.O.T and Trax do will not feature on this list.
